Minimally Invasive Dentistry

Minimally invasive dentistry is a way of treating tooth decay by minimal intervention. Its principles involve remineralization rather than drilling for early lesions, reducing and preventing new decay by treating plaque, use of minimal treatments to treat existing cavities, repairing restorations when possible and controlling caries by reducing the causes.

Dr. Adedeji believes that only necessary treatment is carried out. We offer several modes of treatment that do not involve drilling your teeth.

Icon Resin Infiltration Technique

Icon can arrest the progress of early enamel lesions up to the first third of dentin – in one simple procedure, without unnecessary loss of healthy tooth structure. Icon offers a revolutionary approach to the cosmetic treatment of carious white spot lesions. Lesions infiltrated by Icon take on the appearance of the surrounding healthy enamel. This provides a highly esthetic alternative to micro-abrasion and restorative treatments of cariogenic white spots – all in one simple treatment, with no drilling.

MI Paste® and MI Paste Plus®

MI Paste® and MI Paste Plus® are not toothpaste; they are topical tooth crèmes containing calcium, phosphate, and fluoride that can be used safely several times a day (or directed by your dental professional or physician). Both products release vital minerals into the mouth when and where needed.

MI Paste® and MI Paste Plus ®are the only products for professional use containing the active ingredient RECALDENT™ (CPP-ACP), a special milk-derived protein that has a unique ability to release bio-available calcium and phosphate (and fluoride in MI Paste Plus®) to tooth surfaces.

MI Paste® and MI Paste Plus® are safe and easy-to-use both in office and at home. They are both available in five delicious flavors: melon, mint, strawberry, tutti-frutti, and vanilla.

What Do They Do?

  • Relieve tooth sensitivity
  • Do not irritate dry mouths
  • Provide a topical coating for patients suffering from sensitivity
  • Help minimize tooth sensitivity before and after professional cleaning and tooth whitening
  • MI Paste Plus reduces the appearance of white spot lesions

What Is the Difference between MI Paste® & MI Paste Plus®?

MI Paste® does not contain fluoride and is recommended for children under six years of age and pregnant women. MI Paste Plus® offers the same great benefits of regular MI Paste®; it is enhanced with a patented form of fluoride.

Silver Diamine Fluoride

Silver diamine fluoride is an antimicrobial liquid that is brushed onto a decayed tooth. It works by stopping the current decay and preventing new decay. Some teeth may then need a sealant or filling to stop food from packing into the cavity. These are provided without any drilling or any shots. This method is most useful for fearful, uncooperative children and older adults with high caries levels. The one drawback is that teeth treated with Silver diamine fluoride become permanently stained black. If these teeth are visible in the front, they may then be covered by a traditional filling.
